Long time coming…
A former member of The H.B. Posse, Menace to Society and Smoove Villains, Big Paul E has been around the block when it comes to the hip hop scene. In ’95 he decided it was time for him to go solo and from then on out he’s been churning out rhymes including The SEEDS Album, The L.U.V. Of Album, The Kill The R.I.G.H.T. People Mixtape, The Duurty Watta 1 & 2 Albums, and The Thuursty Album. While his time spent as part of formative hip hop groups has given him the foundation to continue his career, it is the adversities that have shaped his willpower to succeed in life. He’s overcome every curve ball thrown his way. “Bad Santa” gets underway and it’s over. You know it’s going to be old skool all the way. And if you go back with Big Paul E or not, you can reckon with the force of his voice because that is what makes it so easy to process. Talk about “overcoming curveballs” it all comes full circle. I even laughed at the humor, it’s only lightly explicit. This is a groovy rapper with everything going for him. If you don’t like it there’s no going forward, so it all starts off excellent. Nothing to do but carry on with the rest of the situation. And that’s what I did when I jammed on his music!

The World of Big Paul
As the late, great Aaliyah once said, “Age ain’t nothing but a number.” While she was singing about something different than Big Paul E’s situation, it’s still agreed upon. Big Paul E may be older than many of the other rappers currently in the game, that isn’t a big concern for him. He feels that with all he has been through in his life, his age has nothing to do with his musical creativity.
While his time spent as part of formative hip hop groups has given him the foundation to continue his career, it is the adversities that have shaped his willpower to succeed in life. He’s overcome every curve ball thrown his way; homelessness, incarceration, and even paralyzation by way of police negligence. He notes of his struggles, “At one point, I had given up! Felt like the world had beaten me! I put down my pen and starting believing everyone else that I didn’t have it. I almost let them win! But deep in me, I couldn’t stop! So I just thought of doing the type of music that was in my heart, instead of what people thought I should make, to satisfy them! I started rapping the truth in my heart, not that I wasn’t before, just on a different perspective!”
